Title: Stuck In The Middle

Warnings: Violence and blood to a certain extent, AU, Vampires, Werewolves, Character Death. 
Summary: Hankyung is a transfer student in Korea for his final year of High School, after his roommate Siwon introduces him to his friends, and he befriends people of his own, he soon finds himself stuck in the middle of a conflict between two races that have been at each others throats for centuries.

Leeteuk winced as the door slammed open to their dormitory floor, sinking further down into the sofa cushions as he hoped to avoid whatever inevitable confrontation was about to take place behind him. He had come back up to the dormitory after lunch when he'd almost passed out from exhaustion in the English corridor on his way to his next lesson, the nurse had quickly demanded that he returned to the dormitory for the rest of the day and as the aching throb behind his eye drew his attention back to his skull cracking headache, Leeteuk was rather glad she had done.

“DON'T SLAM THE DOOR OPEN LIKE THAT YOU IGNORANT BRAT!” rolling his eyes at the loud roaring vocals, Leeteuk sat up and peered over the back of the sofa, just in time to see Eunhyuk limp past at rapid speed, the male's injuries being aggravated by him storming off everywhere, before Kangin all but crashed into the area, eyes blazing as he followed after Eunhyuk.

“I SAID FREAKING LEAVE ME ALONE!” Eunhyuk screamed back causing Leeteuk to jump in shock, Eunhyuk wasn't the kind to get riled up or raise his voice at all to anyone. Before he could voice his concerns for his cub, Eunhyuk had hobbled to his room and barged through, slamming the door shut behind him so hard the hinges rattled.

“What on earth happened?!” Leeteuk queried as Kangin stood seething by the doorway, looking ready to all but storm into Eunhyuk's room and throttle the boy for disregarding his 'no slamming doors' comment. At the sound of Leeteuk's voice, Kangin deflated, wincing as he remembered the headache his mate had retreated up to the Dormitory with earlier in the day.

“Oh...he's being an idiot.” Kangin sighed as he scooted round the edge of the sofa to perch himself on the edge beside Leeteuk's stomach as the elder male sprawled out once more. “I'm sorry for shouting, how's your head?”

“It feels like I nearly passed out, returned to my dormitory for some peace and was just getting better when my mate and cub stormed in like a herd of stampeding elephants and ruined it all.” Leeteuk dead-panned, rolling his eyes at Kangin who merely winced sheepishly before leaning over to press a small kiss to his forehead.

“If it's worth anything I am sorry.” Kangin whispered, smiling as Leeteuk hummed non-committally in his throat as his eyes slid shut, fingers interlacing themselves with Kangin's. Hearing the doorway open once more, Kangin looked up behind him to find ZhouMi walking in, arms wrapped around Henry's chest holding the youngest off the floor, swinging him from side to side as the small cub squawked in annoyance and scrabbled to get put down, legs kicking backwards in an attempt to disable his Hyung long enough to escape. “ZhouMi-yah? What on earth are you doing?” Kangin queried causing the tall male to freeze mid swing, Henry still squirming in his arms.

“He called me lanky. So I called him a shrimp. He denied it, so I'm proving just how much of a shrimp he is.” ZhouMi explained as if the whole thing was blatantly obvious. “Where'd Eunhyuk Hyung go?”

“He's sulking in his room right now.” Kangin stated, before turning as Leeteuk slapped his bicep with a small 'tut' of annoyance.

“You shouted at him. I'm not surprised he's holed up in his room.” Leeteuk stated when Kangin peered at him curiously. “I'll go talk to him in a minute and see what's going on.”

“Umma!” Henry cried causing Leeteuk to bolt upright, head swivelling towards the sound of the small cub, eyes narrowing as he found ZhouMi holding him off the floor. “Tell him to put me down~” Henry whined causing ZhouMi to roll his eyes in annoyance.

“Hey! You started this!” ZhouMi stated giving Henry another swing, causing Henry to squawk once more, Kangin to laugh and Leeteuk to narrow his eyes dangerously further.

“ZhouMi-yah! Put him down this instant!” Leeteuk snapped, wincing as the sharp tone went straight to his head, smiling lightly as the tallest male complied and set the cub down, only for said cub to bounce across the room and dive on his 'parents' Leeteuk rather thankful Kangin caught him as his head wouldn't have been able to withstand the strain.

“I was only messing. He was alright.” ZhouMi stated leaning against the back of the sofa. “I'm not exactly going to hurt my baby brother am I?”

“I don't care.” Leeteuk muttered as ZhouMi shuffled off towards his own room, reaching over and going to pull Henry off Kangin and to himself, only to find Henry's fists clamped around the material of Kangin's shirt. “I've been replaced it seems.” Leeteuk pouted causing Kangin to chuckle once more and Henry to turn and shake his head. “Don't worry pup. I was only joking. I'm going to go talk to Eunhyuk-ah, see what's been going on, be good for your Appa.”

At the small cry of 'I will!' Leeteuk, who had gotten to his feet and moved across towards the main corridor, smiled happily and turned back to watch as Kangin sat Henry down on the seat he had just vacated, the youngest quickly pulling his backpack open and retrieving his homework and holding it out towards Kangin with bright wide puppy eyes in a silent request for help, Leeteuk's smile growing as Kangin smiled uncharacteristically gently and took the offered sheet off the boy and set about helping him with it.

Reaching Eunhyuk's room, Leeteuk frowned as he heard the soft distinct sounds of things being thrown roughly around their resting place, soft annoyed cross-breeds of sobs and growls just audible amidst it all. Realising the door was locked as he tried the handle, Leeteuk gently knocked against the wood panels and waited while all sound ceased from within as Eunhyuk tried to work out who was at his door.

“Teukie Hyung?” at the soft voice a lot clearer then he'd expected, Leeteuk jolted slightly before replying in confirmation, not bothering to explain what he wanted, knowing full well Eunhyuk would know why he was there. “The doors open.” Frowning at the soft voice, Leeteuk tried the door once again, only to find that it was indeed open and quickly pushed his way in, eyes widening as he took in the state of the younger male's room. Eunhyuk was slouched against his desk, which was now completely bare except for his computer which he had wisely left alone, the duvet and pillows were strewn across the floor, sheets ripped off the bed, school work and personal trinkets scattered across the top like food toppings on a giant bedding cake, to say the room was a mess was an understatement.

“Eunhyuk-ah?! What on earth did you do this for?” Leeteuk gasped as he carefully stepped over the mess and crouched down in front of the younger male.

“I was angry.” Eunhyuk stated, voice low and flat as he peered unseeingly at the ground.

“That was evident when you came in from school.” Leeteuk sighed before gracefully dropping onto the floor and curling his feet beneath him.

“I had to do something, otherwise I would have hit someone.” Eunhyuk stated, Leeteuk's eyes narrowing slightly as he spotted the bloodied knuckles and the discriminating dint in the wall above them.

“So you punched the wall instead?” Leeteuk questioned, sighing heavily as Eunhyuk nodded in response. “Aish~ Hyukkie-yah. Honestly...why didn't you come and talk to me about it?” Leeteuk queried as he pulled the male's hand towards him, carefully inspecting the cuts for any dirt or internal damage before he got to his feet and manoeuvred his way across to the en-suite to retrieve the first aid kit.

“I would have but he was there.” Eunhyuk shot back as Leeteuk walked back into the room, pouting slightly as Leeteuk sighed and sat down once again and reached across for his hand to clean and bandage.

“He is your Alpha, Hyung and part time Appa. Even if you don't exactly like him right now, at least show him a bit of respect Hyukkie-yah.” Leeteuk replied softly, waving away the equally soft 'sorry' he got in response. “Now...Explain to me what your shouting match was all about, I'm assuming it stemmed from your little episode at lunch?”

“He won't stop having a go at me for hugging Donghae-yah.” Eunhyuk sighed, carefully rolling over and hugging Leeteuk around the middle, remembering to be careful as the elder male still wasn't completely healed yet. “Every time I think he's finished calling me an idiot, a disgrace and basically a traitor to my own race, he's merely catching his breath to carry on and go on about exactly the same things all over again!” Eunhyuk added, snarls rising his chest as the annoyance increased once more, only to sink back down as Leeteuk softly stroked his fingers through the longer strands of his hair.

“Did he actually use those words? Or are you surmising?” Leeteuk replied softly, carefully stretching out as the abused muscles in his stomach protested at his curled up shape.

“He called me an idiot and a disgrace to my face, but I was surmising with the traitor bit...even though it was blatantly obvious what he was trying to say.” Eunhyuk answered, glancing up curiously as Leeteuk growled in annoyance at his mate's lack of tact.

“That's...Kangin-ah's way of showing he cares.” Leeteuk smiled still caressing the soft strands of hair, the marks from his previous torture still visible on his relaxed face. “We thought we'd lost you once already this year. When Kangin-ah told me you'd been captured I was all but ready to ignore the fact I was bleeding to come and find you.”

“You're more important. You're our Umma, without you half of us wouldn't be like we are now.” Eunhyuk smiled, looking up from his position in Leeteuk's lap, hand reaching up to tug gently on the elder male's ponytail causing him to chuckle lightly.

“Yes...and as your Umma, it is my job to protect all my babies.” Leeteuk replied, poking his tongue out childishly before turning serious once more. “I can understand you hugging him etc. because he saved you. If someone saves your life it creates an unbreakable bond regardless of their race.” Leeteuk explained, curling Eunhyuk's fingers into his own to stop him from pulling his ponytail again. “I had expected some sort of reaction from you when Donghae-sshi returned from getting healed.”

“You did?!” Eunhyuk exclaimed, momentarily forgetting Leeteuk was directly above him and could hear him whisper, let alone all but shout.

“I did.” Leeteuk confirmed before his eyes narrowed in thought. “However...No one else has noticed yet, or really taken much notice of it, but I noticed your quick to defend the fact that Donghae-sshi is no longer Kibum-sshi's mate and your excuse is that he saved your life and that Kibum-sshi is not a worthy mate because of how he treated him.”

“Wh-What are you implying?” Eunhyuk stammered quickly rolling off the elder male and onto his knees, peering curiously across at Leeteuk.

“Are you sure that's the only reason you keep saying that?” Leeteuk queried causing Eunhyuk's eyes to go wide. “Is it more then gratitude you feel towards him?”

“W-What?! W-Why would I be like that! He's a Vampire! It's against rules, against codes, against nature!” Eunhyuk exclaimed, rolling backwards quickly so he was slouched against the desk once more.

“Eunhyuk-ah. Believe me, if there's one person in this pack who you can talk to about interacting with vampires and not get a bad reaction, it's me.” Leeteuk sighed, opening his arms and gesturing for Eunhyuk to come back to him, which the male did warily after a few moments pause. The pair sat in silence for a while, Leeteuk happily stroking Eunhyuk's hair, and contemplating telling his red haired cub about his bloodline secret, debating the pro's and con's in order to prevent himself from forcing an answer out of his cub.

“Would you disown me if I said I wasn't sure?” Eunhyuk breathed after an even longer period of silent contemplation, wide worried eyes peering up at Leeteuk. “If I said I wasn't sure if it was just gratitude or not?”

“No. You're my baby, I would never disown you.” Leeteuk breathed in response, dimpled smile shining “Now, try and explain what's going on in that mind of yours and I'll see if there's anything we can do.”

“W-What if it is more then gratitude?!” Eunhyuk queried, blinking almost terrified at the idea up at Leeteuk.

“Well...then you have a choice. Either you see how he feels, and if he feels the same, risk war, exile and death to be together.” Leeteuk sighed, ignoring Eunhyuk small wince at his words. “Or, you ignore it and never speak of it again and save you both years of running and fighting...yet run the high risk of being unhappy and lonely for the rest of your many years.”

“So either way it's not going to end well?” Eunhyuk sighed, closing his eyes as he spoke, Leeteuk not failing to notice the small tears collecting in the corners of the male's eyes, yet choosing not to answer and simply held the male closer.

“Right! We're off.” Yesung stated as he stepped into the common room area that the Vampire group rarely used, watching amused as he found Hankyung, Siwon and Kyuhyun sprawled in a triangle across the floor comparing notes, the trio looking up as he walked in.

“Already?” Siwon queried glancing at his watch before blinking in shock at the time. “Wow. I didn't realise it was that late already.”

“Yeah, so...Me and Wookie-yah are going, we'll let you know when we get there and keep you updated on what's going on.” Yesung replied as Ryeowook stepped into the area, slender body encased in fitted black shirt and trousers, face set into a solid blank expression, yet Siwon could easily see the redness around his eyes.

“Alright, I want reports. It's not good you both going off like this.” Siwon stated getting to his feet as Hankyung remained staring confusedly on the floor. “Stay safe both of you.”

“We'll be alright. Yoochun-sshi is meeting us.” Ryeowook stated with a small, thin lipped smile

“Where are you going?” Hankyung queried gently, getting to his feet as well, clutching at Siwon's arm as his legs failed to hold him up as they were bombarded with pins and needles.

“Oh. I got a message from Yoochun-sshi earlier in the week, I need to go to my family house and sort out the blood recognition system so it recognises me as the head of the house. And I also have a lot of things to organise.” Ryeowook explained, causing Hankyung to wince sympathetically.

“That sounds awful.” Hankyung muttered more to himself then Ryeowook. “You're coping really well Wookie-yah.” he added with a small smile.

“To be honest Hyung I've not had time to do anything but cope. What with accidents and injuries and attacks, I never used to see my Appa much as it was, but...” Ryeowook explained before trailing off as he sniffed, shaking his head slightly to push the blank, collected, mature expression back onto his face.

“You sure you don't want me to come with you?” Siwon questioned for what must have been the fifth time in the past two hours.

“No, you're alright. I've got Sungie Hyung. We'll be fine. Besides, like he said, Yoochun-sshi is meeting us.” Ryeowook smiled before moving to take hold of Yesung's hand, Hankyung watching curiously as Yesung quickly wrapped his spare arm around Ryeowook's waist before closing his eyes, Ryeowook merely rolling his eyes before waving slightly at the trio gathered before the pair disappeared into thin air.

“I'm still not used to seeing that.” Hankyung stated, causing Siwon to smile. “I don't think I ever will be.”

“Oh don't worry, still gives us a heart attack when someone pops up beside us.” Siwon replied before he dropped gracefully back to the floor, pausing mid-sprawl across his front. “Hang on....DONGHAE HYUNG!”

At the loud shout of the other vampire's name, Hankyung jumped at the tone of Siwon's voice, having almost forgotten he was their leader, before he jumped once more as Donghae appeared looking sheepish at his side, his coat pulled up to his jaw, hat on his head and sunglasses hiding his eyes, the whole thing making it blatantly obvious that wherever he was going he didn't want to be recognised.

“And just where are you going?” Siwon hissed, eyes narrowing dangerously as Donghae discreetly grasped hold of Hankyung's shirt back in fear. “Especially like that.”

“I-I just...I'm off out..” Donghae stuttered, Hankyung quickly curling his arm round his back to hold Donghae's fingers comfortingly between his own. “I am allowed out still.”

“Yes you are, but even you have to accept that you look suspicious like this.” Siwon stated arms folding across his chest.

“I'm...I'm meeting someone.” Donghae stated, sighing resignedly as he realised he wasn't about to get away without telling the Leader where he was going. Guessing that he was going to see Eunhyuk and after seeing the group's reaction at Lunch, Hankyung quickly stepped in.

“It's alright, who's he going to meet really? Kibum-ah? Heechul Hyung? You know better then I do that they'd kill him on sight if he tried to meet them. Same goes for the rest of their group.” Hankyung defended, smiling lightly as Donghae whispered a small 'thank you' against his back. “He's not exactly off to go tell your enemies secrets is he? Just let him go out.”

“...You know something.” Kyuhyun stated suddenly drawing the three other male's attention towards the blond. “The way you're defending him. You know something.”

“Kyuhyun-ah, It's rather obvious Hankyung Hyung knows something.” Siwon stated before he turned his eyes on Donghae, Hankyung shivering as he spotted the familiar, piercing, all seeing look across his partner's face.

“Get out of my head!” Donghae exclaimed, quickly turning away and clamping his eyes shut, knowing full well that Siwon had already seen what he needed yet not wanting to accept the consequences.

“I wasn't in your head.” Siwon stated with a small smirk. “I already knew where you were going. I was just seeing whether you trusted us enough to tell us.” he added, causing Donghae's face to drop slightly, almost in guilt. “I guess not. Never mind. Off you go. Just be careful.”

“H-How do you know where I'm going?” Donghae queried tilting his head slightly in confusion, before Siwon waved him off, a silent promise to talk about it later as he went. Not wanting to lose the opportunity, Donghae quickly hugged Hankyung before rushing off down the stairs and out onto the School's grounds, racing through the trees to the very back where the wolves normally disappeared in and reappeared from during their full moon phases. Turning right as he reached the fence, Donghae smiled as he found the small natural alcove in the trees that lead through to the small enclosure that was undetectable from all angles.

“Donghae-yah!” At the call of his name, Donghae could barely prepare himself before Eunhyuk had dived on him and wrapped him in a hug, the slightly taller man chuckling happily as Donghae hugged him back. “I thought you'd bailed on me, I was worried.”

“No! Siwon-ah caught me.” Donghae stated, waving away the concerned look on Eunhyuk's face. “It's alright, he knows where I am...but for some reason doesn't seem to mind.” he added before turning serious as he sat cross legged on the grass opposite from the jittery red head. “So...what is it you wanted to talk to me about?”

“Well...” Eunhyuk started, pausing to briefly glance around the area, despite the fact that no one but himself and Leeteuk, and now Donghae knew of this place. “I need to work something out.” he continued before pausing once again, Donghae peering curiously across at him, before reaching over and gently pressing a comforting hand to the wolf's arm in a soft gesture to coax him into continuing, which the wolf did moments later, nervous gummy smile shining momentarily before he turned serious. Neither of them focusing properly on anything other then each other, both failing to notice the shadowed figure perched out of sense range, curled atop the branches of a distant tree, eyes shimmering dangerously as he smirked at the pair.
